    I want to go back

I installed AMD 64 8.04. I had expected it would partition my drive, as all other versions did. It didn't. Therefore I lost Windows XP. After running AMD 64 version I'm disappointed. I can't get my printer (Canon pixma ip1800) to work because there are no 3rd party drivers for it for AMD 64. Also, I tried to install Opera browser; same results - it only works on i386.

At this point I want to go back and reload Windows XP and install i386 8.04 from there. If I install it under Windows it will dual boot. I like 8.04, just not some of the issues with AMD 64 version

What I'm not sure about is how do I get my SATA hard drive back to where I can reinstall Windows?

I'm a real novice so I need detailed step by step instructions.

    Thanks

What you need to do is boot from your Windows XP CD. This will guide you through the installation process, and will have instructions for deleting all partitions and starting fresh.

do you have an XP install disk? or did you only have some sort of "restore" partition that came from your machine's OEM?

There are no more issues with the 64 bit install than there are with the 32 bit version.

Opera can be installed on a 64 bit architecture. I know because I have opera installed. You just need to follow appropriate tutorials.

I think this should help.. start at step 7
    http://ubuntu-utah.ubuntuforums.org/...d.php?t=508927

From here Windows should recognize the drive and be able to install.

Then to set up dual boot :

    I hope this helps

    i second that!

i have the 64bit version and i have had no problems at all

and opera 9.50b2 runs fast as hell on 64bit (scores way higher then firefox3 on acid3 test) you just have to know where to find the right one

give me a minute and ill hunt down the download for opera 64 bit

edit: here is the download for opera 9.50b3 64bit
    ftp://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/linux/...nal/en/x86_64/
(you will want the .deb file)

and here is a link highlighting the speed of opera (just for fun)
