iBook g3 clamshell se graphite question

I have an ibook g3 clamshell, 366mhz if i remember correctly, and i think it has about 320mb ram, I havent touched it in some time, I was wondering if anyone has installed on one and if so what version of ubuntu and what kind of performance can be expected, it will be a few days before I can try this myself.

Although I haven't run one myself, I remember catching a big tip about clamshell installation: Use the US keyboard mapping during install, and then change it afterwards if necessary.

I got home a little sooner than expected so I'm downloading the iso right now, Might not get around to installing tonight though I guess I'll have to post my experience here when I get it up and running.

Those little guys can actually run some amazing things for their age. Once saw a Clamshell running Tiger.

Wether or not someone's XPostFacto-ed their way into getting Leopard to boot, I don't know.

Yea they are pretty nice, I have 10.3.9 on mine, runs great, no lag, its only crashed a couple of times but it was due to a bad wireless card, as old as it keeps up with some of my pc's in the 500mhz range, battery lasts longer than any other laptop I've ever owned too, Tried installing last night, did not work out as planned, took a while to boot from cd, gnome broke right away so I restarted X and it seemed to work, untill it got logged in, no desktop icons, toolbar icons were gone, menus opened very slow, and the installer failed, I don't remember what it said exactly but it was unable to copy something from a folder on the cd, I think it was icons from a "humans" folder, can't remember I was tired at the time but it could have been aq bad burn or bad disk. I got off work early today though so I'm going to try xubuntu. A friend of mine recommended it for older systems when I was trying to get ubuntu installed on my dads old pc which was a celeron 400mhz, I've since upgraded him and have ubuntu installed, anyway I'll probably post my results on here later today in case anyone else decides to try this.

Even though you seem to have enough ram, I'd recommend the "alternate" installer in either case, rather than the live-cd desktop. It's a good thing to check the specs.

If you are running with only 64mb ram, definitely look into a lightweight install:

You might also be running into the 8gb hd partitioning limit on those machines (partition for 7gb to be safe) if the firmware hasn't been upgraded, or the hd has been upgraded some time in the past.

If OSX is the only thing that works, you can still get your geek on with the terminal, and nano, vi, emacs, bash/tcsh etc.. A great source for the cli with osx specifics is:
