    Best DVD player?

I am looking for the best DVD player. I have Hardy Heron installed. I attempted to watch a Dream Theater DVD that I have. Totem won't get past the opening FBI warning and sort of a flash screen. Xine, is playing but it is flashing at me.

Have you installed the DVD playback abilities? http://lifehacker.com/350015/enable-...n-two-commands

Totem works fine for me, but maybe VLC will work better for you... it's in the repos.

VLC is the best video player in my opinion. You can find it in synaptic. download it plus all the codecs for it.

I'd definitely go with VLC. It has options to change the aspect ratio (change widescreen to fullscreen and vice versa), built-in equalizers and the ability to handle almost any audio or video codec you can throw at it. VLC's the only player I'll use for DVDs on any computer now. Top notch.

As everyone else said VLC is win.
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install vlc
    Ubuntu User # 17031

vlc sometimes has problems with some of my dvds. i use an older gnome player called ogle to play those (although i still prefer vlc). it's in repositories too.

Yet another vote for VLC! Mplayer wouldn't even run a DVD for me. Loaded VLC and all is well. I never tried Totem.

How come some DVD's play and others don't in VLC? Example is ELF and WIZARD of OZ do not play. These are legit discs that I own. I've been through every tutorial or thread that's available. They play on my Mac and on a Windows machine.
