    Question [SOLVED] 8.04 64bit or 8.04 32 bit

There was some discussion here about me using the 32 bit Ver of ubuntu on a 64 bit system. Well I had started with the 64 bit system when I built this machine but I was having crashing issues & then went to the 32 bit ver or 8.04. And had no more crashes at that time. After all that I found out today why I was having crashes and it was a hardware issue.

Anyway now that I have that fixed Im thinking of going back to the 64 bit ver... The only question I have is this.....

I do have one Softwear package that HAS to run on 32 bit system of lunix...... I heard some place there there a 32 bit compatibility thing that I can install on the 64 bit system. Is that so and is it in the repositories??

Any ideas would be a big help thanks

yeh most of the stuff out there only has 32bit systems in mind, but its not like its impossible to make multimedia work in a 64bit system.
the biggest annoyances I know are java and flash, but both are bound to improve real soon as both flash and java are practically going open source soon.

depends on how much you tax your system underload. I do tons of things multitasking and 64 bit works better for me. I have no problems and can get almost all the programs in 64bit. Even then, there are ways to make 32 bit programs run on 64bit.

I don't know what people are talking about I run the 64bit with flash java no problems and like all programs have a 64bit version.... And yes like skype you have to install the 32bit libs it is really EZ and if you just google it you will find it in a sec.
