Right now there are no real legal alternatives to iTunes when you want main stream music. However, if you are willing to try alternatives, you could give Jamendo a shot. (The music there is free, actually, but you may give donations.)
Also, have you tried running iTunes in Wine? It should be supported well.

Wine is a program that lets you run Windows programs under Linux. You can install it with the Synaptic package manager and then simply click on the iTunes Windows installer.
