    OK, I've fixed my problem now.

    I realised that my default.pa was missing modules to load at start up. Via Google I found this helpful doc:

    and added this:

    ok, im having some issues with...

    I have pulseaudio working, i ran through the howto and did everthing i was supposed to, i'm pretty sure...Problem is no one can here me when i try to speak to them, i cant make the test call either...so i know thats the problem but i cant get it to work...

    skype sound device options are this.....
    Sound In: pulse
    Sound Out: C-media CMI8738 (pulghw:CMI8738.0)
    Ringing: pulse


    in the pulse audio applet>volume control
    i only have one choice for output/input devices which is:
    ALSA PCM on front:0 (C-Media PCI DAC/ADC) via DMA (same for both)
    little weird thing about it though is that there is a little red "x" over the volume changer icon...not sure what that means??

    There's a typo in the original post. The info for Skype "in" and "out" are reversed. To fix your problem:

    Set Skype's "Sound In" to the mic on your sound card (not pulse)
    Set Skype's "Sound Out" to "Pulse"

    This worked for me once I figured out that "sound in" is the MIC!

    Answer: My result was "C". I have no sound whatsoever, though there is an entry that shows it is playing (for example, a DVD in VLC).

    I get the result shown on the attached jpg. For some reason the M-Audio Delta 44 soundcard is now appearing as the default card instead of the NVidia, and I don't know how to change it. It doesn't appear that there is anything on these bar graphs - they are empty. So I don't know what that means.

    I hope someone has an idea of where I am going wrong - I followed all the instructions exactly (I think).

    Hi Kath,

    Have you tried this yet? I noticed that your card type is ICE1712 like mine. There is a bug in PulseAudio for M-Audio Delta 44 and other cards that use ICE1712.

    Later - well, I tried your solution again, Rod, with no success. Then I tried the workaround given in this link:

    This not only didn't work, but stopped both soundcards being recognised or loaded at all. So I changed things back to the original configuration, and now I'm back where I started.

    What next . . . ?
