[HOW-TO] Make your fonts look A LOT prettier in a few clicks!

You won't need to install anything or to hack in the console. Just a few clicks in the system settings.
Go to system - preferences - appearance - fonts. Change all the sans fonts sizes from 10 to 9 (this is not necessary but it's much nicer with it) and then, click the "Details" button, and change the Hinting options from medium to slight.

That's all! That makes the fonts in the system, Firefox and Thunderbird look much nicer! That also deals with the bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...rd/+bug/224810

In the screenshot provided, on the left is Before, on the right is after.

all a matter of taste really. mine look fine by default, better actually.
We seek to resolve frustration and abide in a comfortable, relaxed mind. We call that 'happiness'. And still I believe in that next upgrade...

Since the upgrade to Hardy Heron and Firefox 3, some websites
    look atrocious, for example www.theregister.co.uk

Changing default point size from 10 to 9 made absolutely no difference
    whatsoever.

Strange, i have such fonts in Opera in some sites, but not in Firefox. However, the main thing is not about changing the fonts' size but about changing the hinting options.
