"Widget" like suggestions

Does anyone know of some good programs like sysmetrix for windows and gdesklets (but more stable). I have looked through gdesklets but only half actually work. I would like something like the bar on the side of the desktop in this pic but I do not know what program it is.

another good option would be conky
but I agree screenlets are more eyecandy
