    you need to manually edit fstab to get ext3 to auto-mount....or
    use disk manager (it does it for you...automagically ^.^)

    ntfs-config uses the ntfs-3g layer to auto-mount them. Without the -3g layer, you could only get it to work with something else like fuse (or whatever. i sound so smart, but i really am not).
    Otherwise, even editing fstab would not yield results since you wouldnt even be able to manually mount it.

    In the end. If you want no headach, use disk-manager.

    if (you != headach){
    run disk-manager}
    else{
    whatever, im trying to code in...dumba**
    }

    I installed disk-manager but I can't even find it in my menus.

    System-> Admministration -> Disk Manager

    help.... another newbie here unable to get his ntfs external hard drive working
    have ntfs config and ntfs -3g installed
    i can see the hard drive in PLACES but it won't mount to allow me to access my mp3s which i want to add to the main hard drive

    Have you tried what i have posted above?

    All you have to do is "sudo gedit /etc/hal/fdi/policy/preferences.fdi" and paste in the quoted text(then reboot).
