Exclamation Re: HowTo: Automount NTFS Drives

Hello joeb 454 and all , Ive also had problems getting my external hard drive set up . I read what you wrote to help others and copied the instructions as best I could , and THINK Ive managed to install the external hard drive . Ive wiped the windows xp off it at least , after managing to download my music etc to ubuntu . But the problem I have now is . Its telling me I have 70 odd gigabytes of unallocated space . Does that mean its all set up and I can use it to put files on in ubuntu , or do I have to do something else to format it to linux . AS it doesnt seem to appear anywhere except in gparted when I do a scan . How do I access it to put files on it ?
Any help will be gratefully received .

@sosalini - try using the External Hard Drives option. I can't comment beyond that, as I don't have an External Drive

    Re: HowTo: Automount NTFS Drives

I have a problem. I installed it correctly then executed it. Now, it doesnt show the sda5 partition, which is the one i need to mount automatically during startup. Furthermore when i try to mount through places>Music (Music is sda5, just changed the volume name), there is an error message "You are not priviledged to mount the volume 'Music'".
What is the problem? No, my hard disk is not external. Yes, it is one of the partition of the one and only Hard Drive I have.

    Thank you.

Is the Music partition an NTFS partition?

Also, if it is, did you cleanly unmount the drive? If not it won't let you mount it

Oh well...may be the CLEAN UNMOUNT was the problem. Now it works fine. Thank you

    Re: HowTo: Automount NTFS Drives

Ah glad it works. You have to cleanly unmount it before it will work.

Hopefully they'll be able to change this in future versions of ntfs-3g, and have it check the file system when you mount it

    Re: HowTo: Automount NTFS Drives

Just a quick comment on this - my external USB 2.0 harddrive with NTFS partition was not unmounted properly from the ******* box when removed and would thus not mount in ubuntu when plugged in.

There is obviously some file lock that indicates that the drive is still mounted to the ******* session.
So advice is - remember to cleanly unmount from any OS before removal.
