How do i reduce the brightness?

Im using a gateway MX6959 laptop with an Intel mobile 945 integrated graphics chip set and the key combination to change the brightness does not work. All of my other key combinations do work. I am using Gutsy. Tank you for any help.

May be you can use ddccontrol, it's available in Ubuntu repos
It has a command-line interface, a GUI and a gnome applet, check the Usage section in the documentation for more details

Here is the solution, I was able to map builtin controls to keyboard shortcuts.

Control your laptop brightness using keyboard shortcuts

This is not possible. Function (Fn) keys are controlled by the BIOS - they should work whatever OS you have. They even work when an OS is not loaded so..... As far as I remember when I used Gutsy the function keys were OK.
