8.04 problems with video playback from network shares

    Hi all, here's the problem:

I have just upgraded from 6.06 to an ubuntu 8.04 machine installation. This machine funcitions as a filesharing server. DVD rips in DivX and Xvid format are stored on usb hard drives that are connected to this computer and shared via samba. The problem I have is that, when playing a video, should I navigate to a different directory, such as going up a directory, or down a directory, the video file freezes and I have to stop and restart the player to get it working again.

I have used both vlc and windows media player with the same results. Also, this problem has only started occuring since moving to 8.04.

    Anyone have any ideas?
