    Question thunderbird & gmail

can you use thunderbird to retrieve your gmail account. I have put in all the settings except password and I can't find a place for that but it just says looking up pop.gmail.com and eventually times out. I am new to all but windows and trying to get loose so any help is appreciated.

Make sure that you enabled SSL for your gmail connection.

Edit>Account Settings>Server Settings (On hte left)

You should see a checkbox on the right under the pop.gmail.com for SSL. Check it.

I prefer imap myself because it mirrors webmail and automatically keeps folder structures.

Instead of pop you can use imap.googlemail.com

    and for smtp use smtp.googlemail.com

Set them both for SSL security.

    Re: thunderbird & gmail

Sorry for the dumb question but under account type I selected e-mail. I did not look down the list and see g-mail as an option until a few minutes ago but that was the problem. I have it working now thanks and I promise to try and not ask too many dumb ????'s.
