    Sound via ssh

I have a home file server running ubuntu 8.04 and my desktop pc running xp (at least until I can get ATI drivers to work with an HD3850). I can ssh, via putty, to the ubuntu machine and using Xming can run graphical programs on the server and view them on my windows box.

However I am having problems getting sound to work across ssh (not entirely unexpected as Xming is purely an X server). Unfortunately I haven't got the slightest idea how to go about listening to audio, playing on my server, but on my windows PC.

A bit of research suggested esound which I am looking into but does anybody else have any suggestions or practical advice.

    Re: Sound via ssh

    Bump.

Apparently PulseAudio can transmit sound over a network but again I am not sure how to go about this.

I have found a PulseAudio "player" for windows so hopefully this will bear fruit.

As always feel free to chip in with ideas....

    Many thanks
