    Advice on new hardware

I'm about to purchase a new laptop with the intent of running Ubuntu 8.04 from day one.

I'm wondering what others can recommend as I have no brand/model preferences, I just want it to work.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions as to what to get, or for that matter, what to avoid.

Yes, I've look at various compatibility lists, but I'm not talking so much about technical compatibility as smooth running, which can be quite different.

Check out the laptops at System76: www.system76.com

All are fully compatible with Ubuntu preinstalled. Also any Intel based HP laptop has extremely good compatibility. Broadcom wireless and the AMD based HP laptops have issues on the other hand.
