while it is true that some users feel the same way as you do about Ubuntu others most assuredly do not. as far as functionality is concerned I personally don't have the faintest Idea what you are talking about I find Ubuntu rich in functionality. 90 min is not a long time BTW. as for sound some have trouble and some don't. I am not sure about this but wouldn't the making and selling of the OS defeat the purpose of free and freedom based software? You might get with some of the older users to solve some of your issues but it sounds like your laptop has issues 8.04 works fine on mine and I use it for work all the time.
perhaps this is to long a rant but I have one more comment and that is; I noticed this post was started is the beginners forum this kind of negative post has a tendency to discourage them and that is something I personally would not like to do.

Ubuntu Linux is not hard but, there is, as with all things, a learning curve.
