Installing BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI on 7.10 & 8.04 - Broadcom wifi on a HP dv9000

Hey this worked on my Acer Extensa 4420-5237(running hardy heron the wifi did not allow 7.04 and 7.10 to boot bcmw43xx_microcode.fw hardy heron no problem) just one edit to what is said for me it works best if you do not add
'blacklist b43' but follow the rest the light may come on and then shut off during boot up but who cares if it is on or off if it works anyway thanks, (openSUSE 10.3 is great but does not have Add/Remove programs that gets all the dependencies and ubuntu can use my internal wireless so go ubuntu)

Thank you so much for this post! It worked in the first try when various other methods were dead ends.

I'm currently using an HP dv2415nr notebook with the 64-bit (AMD64) version of Ubuntu 8.04 - Hardy Heron.

My output in "lspci | grep Broadcom" gives:
...Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI (rev 02)

As the post describes, this should work with most all HP Pavilion dv2000, dv6000, dv9000 or most Compaq Presario notebooks manufactured within the last year or two which use Broadcom wireless cards (I know, because I work at a major retailer as a technician and not much has changed on these computers internally since they started using the sleeker-looking chassis).

I searched far and wide for a solution to this problem after my own attempts failed, and I am ecstatic that this worked so easily! And on the 64-bit platform!

[ NOTE: I hope you don't mind my doing so, but the somewhat obvious or redundant information I included in this reply is so that others who experience this problem might be able to more easily find information when they perform searches on the forums. ]

jlandaw - Can you post your lspci -nn? I just realized that you posted that you have a BCM94311MCG, but you did not mention which revision you are using. I just want to confirm that it is a rev 01 instead of an 02. From what I understand is that the rev 02 is having problems with the b43 driver (even with your fixes).
