    Question Should I upgrade?

    I have AMD64 athalon3000+ with1.5GB ram Nvidia FX56K, Kubuntu7.1 and KDE 3.5.8
All working fine and looking good,
I also have web+mail+ftp server running on it (all controlled by ISPConfig), all working good.
Last upgrade from 7.04 was quite traumatic for me, since upgrading to 7.10 DT wanted to remove my server features and server upgrade wanted to kill my DT. finally I had to totally reinstall after upgrade to 7.10 desktop did delete the server.
I really wouldn't like to go through total installation from zero again again.

Is there a away to upgrade without so many things being removed?
Also, if I upgrade the different parts every time my systems sings for a spcific upgrade, would upgrades I would be missing then?

not sure if you have too! but this is an LTS release, so it would be good to do it now and wait until the next LTS release (2010??)

You can upgrade easily to 8.04 without having to remove anything from your desktop. I would recomment using torrents since that is the fastest method now (compared to using update manager and waiting for 10 hours). See http://ptcbus.blogspot.com/2008/04/u...sy-gibbon.html

    Re: Should I upgrade?

Kubuntu 8.04 is NOT a LTS release. Because of KDE 3.5 being near its end-of-life and KDE4 too young.

With the news concerning the release of the KDE 4 desktop, it was decided by Canonical that Kubuntu 8.04 would not be a Long Term Support (LTS) release.

Yup, Ubuntu 8.04 is LTS. Kubuntu 8.04, however, isn't.

every distro that I have used in the past that had kde as the desktop was way too buggy. I did not know that.
