Disk thrashing on resume from suspend/hibernate

    Hi all, Intrepid user here.

Occasionally, but often, I find that after suspending (closing the lid) or hibernating on my Fujitsu Siemens LI1718, on resume there is a HUGE amount of disk thrashing. The PC runs extremely slowly for anything between 5-15 minutes and even the mouse cursor stops responding accurately.

top shows no processes with a large amount of processor activity

This has happened on and off for a while and I'm fed up of it now! Can anyone help with ideas on troubleshooting this?
