No sound in browser

I use a USB audio device (Microsoft Lifechat LX-3000), and sound works in everything but my browsers. I've tried Swiftfox and Firefox, and flash and MP3 files.

It might not be just your browser, it might be the plugin. I found that sound doesn't play in "movie player" the default mime type for most video files in Firefox with Ubuntu. When I set the file association in Firefox to open the files in VLC Player (check your package manager for vlc) the files played fine, but even opening them in the "Movie Player" outside of Firefox led to no sound.
