Thread: HOWTO: Win32 Video Codecs

  1. #101

Is this HOWTO still valid for Edgy?

How much of this HOWTO is still relevant for the Ubuntu Edgy, 1 year past the article was written?

    Thanks!

    Re: HOWTO: Win32 Video Codecs

Is there any quick and easy way without needing
a billion files using apt-get to just
add XviD video codec and MP3 sound codec
to Ubuntu Linux without using these AIO codec packs ?

Or am I asking the impossible ?

On Windows I have a small XviD Codec install file
which gets me up and running and I use Portable MPC
    to play back the files

    Have a look here:

    http://www.ubuntugeek.com/install-mp...rdy-heron.html

    Check under:
Install libdvdcss2 and w32 video codecs in Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron)

Or, whack a disk in your machine and try to play an audio file (windows anything or quicktime). You'll be asked if you want to install the appropriate codecs.
