Mupen64 and Gsnes9x dont recognize my gamepad

i just bought a new gamepad specifically so i could play pokemon snap on mupen 64. well, i hooked it up and it works fine with GFCE Ultra, but it wont recognize it with M 64. it's a dual shock game pad (dont even know what company makes it, but it's basically a PS2 controller with a USB cable attached). does anyone know how to make this work, or where to get an N64 emulator that will recognize the controller?

and before you ask, yes, i checked the box to "plug in" the controller

oh and i know it was in the title but not my original post, but it's the same deal with gsnes9x and snes9express

i know they're both frontends for the same thing, so maybe there's just no controller support for it :/

Try joystick (in the repositories; it installs 2 command line utilities, jscal and jstest) to establish whether your controller is working properly.

Do not use jscalibrator: it often disables controls in game controllers, particularly directional ones, for other applications, while still reporting them as working itself.
