[SOLVED] is it legal to download red hat?

shouldnt redhat be olbied to post any update they make to the gpl'ed code of the OS (all of it)?

how is this compatible to needing a validation or anything to get the update?

The GPL does not require you to distribute binaries, only source code. And that, Red Hat does:

The source is in the "SRPMS" directory. I didn't link directly since it's a very large directory.

the fact is that we have system administration class this semester and our instructor shows us all the configurations in red hat (RHEL4), now i might as well find out how to do them in ubuntu / debian but i am expected to carry out the configurations on RHEL in my exam so i would like to have a similar work environment. (meaning similar configuration files ) just for practice
