    Yes, there is no command "foobar" of course, it was used as a placeholder for you to put an actual command in.

    Btw, the terms "foo" and "bar" have a long tradition of serving as random names for things in Unix and computer science documentation and articles.

    I realise I wasn't very clear, so I've edited it a little.

    Also, is using metasyntactic variables (foo, bar, baz, foobar) worthwhile? Discuss

    I intended this guide to be for people who really don't care for using the terminal - as such, it's really about explaining some basic things which may help users if they need to enter code.

    Thanks for the explanation.... I often wondered what the mysterious "foo" was...
    PS: In your example, could you included a few examples which the user can read, type and see
    a) Sony Vaio VGN-S3HP (12.04 Precise)

    Brilliant guide. Would have helped me when i first started out with Linux.
