Thanks, this is really good! I've had to turn down the locking duration to 2 seconds or for some reason it takes much longer than the specified time to lock. I'm using a Sony Ericsson W810i
[EDIT] Oh yeah, this is on Hardy and I just installed blueproximity and libpurple-bin through Synaptic... I assume I was correct in setting the owner to root for those scripts in /usr/bin ?

Thanks for the solid review of this
I got it to work perfectly with Verizons LG Chocolate
Works for samsung g600 and on mint linux
samsung d500 working flawlessly on hardy, and channel 3.
channel 7 keeps giving warnings on the phone, channel 3 doesn't.
Channels 1-6 seem to work on a Blackberry 8820

Thanks, eventually got it working here with a Nokia 3500. I'm using Hardy 64-bit. A couple of things though;
-I didn't need to download python, I already had the suggested version installed
-I could install BlueProximity from the repo, no need to download a deb
-When BlueProximity scanned for channels on my phone, all of them were closed (I had to do the scan and find the object push channel as suggested earlier)
-I had to activate locking on the screensaver and change the lock / unlock command as posted by sub101 a few posts above
Apart from that, it was pretty easy! Thanks for an awesomely cool app. I'll have to try the script to pause/unpause Rhythmbox. Cheers!
I'd like to report this howto and Blueproximity as working flawlessly with a Cingular/AT&T 8525 (or HTC Hermes).
Thanks for the how-to!

Hi all,
I would love to use BlueProximity but I can't get it right ....
My phone is detected, but no ports are.. and with spdtool I get this message
... I have a motorola l7 slvr. The connection normally times out after 60 seconds but the connection fails after 20-30 seconds ... ( At that time my phone does go back in 'invisible-mode' .. But even if I start the 60 seconds over and over again, it will always stop...Code:hegrow@hegrow-desktop:~$ sdptool browse Inquiring ... Browsing 00:1A:1B:C9:E8:6A ... Service Search failed: Connection timed out
My dongle is a Cheap Usb stick... And my phone and pc are paired
// I also noticed that my phone gets stuck when I try to view the services....
And that the distance is always on 0 ...
I tried to use multiple channels
Anyone?
Thankx!
