Question ASUS mobo onboard sound and mplayer not working

Has anyone been able to make onboard sound work? I have an ASUS S-Presso box. Mythbuntu is running. I've worked thru most issues but for for two:

    1) The onboard sound doesn't work. How did you get your mobo sound to work?

    2) This should be easy for someone, mplayer does nothing but lock up my machine. No matter what kind of video file I try to play, it does not work and usually freezes the box.

I tried "Elisa" and "MMC" yesterday. Both only worked partially. They had almost ZERO suport so I switched to Mythbuntu this morning. So far I'm having better luck. Of course WAY better support has helped a ton

Thanks in advance for any tips you can provide

Exclamation Re: ASUS mobo onboard sound and mplayer not working

Ok, I've made some progress! I have the sound playing through the optical audio out. AVI files play perfectly, but DVD VOBs make a steady popping sound. Haven't figured that out yet. Anyone experience this?

It's pretty late and my vision is way blurry, so I'll wait for tomorrow to post my resolution.
