try using wine, a windows emulator so you can play windows games and apps on ubuntu. (on packages.ubuntu)

When the appdb is back up, you will see that it probably won't work.

It's listed in the wine and Cedega databases as unplayable... is there any other way to run Windows games in Ubuntu?

I just remembered after being really bummed that Sims1 & 2 wouldn't run in Ubuntu:

    Virtualbox

Does anyone suppose virtualbox would run Sims?

I forgot about it because My Halo disc would install and update and then complain about a debugger in the environment, which of course was virtualbox. : (

But, hey, if Sims works on it, there's a reason to keep it around.

Anybody who has ever asked me about the Sims series on WINE, I tell them I was never able to get it run...

Sims 1 was an utter fail
Sims 2 wouldn't pass the install
Sims 3 runs, but when you get to the neighborhood, crashes..

    Those were my experiences...

You may end up having a better experience with them.. but those are what happened to me.. I ran them in WINE and CrossOver Pro.

Re: The Sims (1) Complete Collection?

I've tried all 3 of these games with different methods.

Wine: Sims 1 will not work yet. Sims 2 will not work yet. Sims 3 works with a lil' extra configuration.

VirtualBox: I play The Sims 1 frequently now with the Direct3D addition in recent versions of VB (make sure you install it in Safe Mode so it's not overwritten).

I think The Sims 2 and 3 would work, too, if you have the RAM to allocate for it (both physical and video RAM).

So yeah, VirtualBox is the only real option for the Sims unless you want to go buy the newest one (and have fast enough hardware to support it).

Wine works with the majority of programs, though, so don't give up on it that easy. It's always getting better.
