I've been Windows-free for about a year now. I went though 6 months of freaking hell trying to learn a new operating system, and in that time I've become convinced of the superiority of Linux as an OS.
My current OS of choice is Ubuntu Hardy. On my rig I've gotten World of Warcraft running perfectly through Wine, gotten all the 64bit crap working, got screenlets working... I've messed about with it umpteen times and lost count of the number of times I've reinstalled everything.
It's never stopped being fun, though. And I love that Ubuntu just works out of the box and sets itself up in about 15 minutes. If it wasn't for all the wacky stuff I do to my computer, I'd never have any problems at all. I know it seems like a big jump, just to dump XP and go solo with Linux, but it's worth it when you think about upgrading... to, say, the bug-filled, DRM riddled, bloated sack of vomit that is Windows Vista.
