Re: How many of you completely switched to Linux?

I switched, or rather dumped, Windows 3 years ago. One too many "invalid license" messages on a Windows XP SP3 OS that had been working fine for the previous year.

There are plenty of free games to play, a few to pay for, and my only missing wish is for playback of Blu-ray DVDs. I wonder if Ubuntu 13.10 finally has the drivers in it?

Re: How many of you completely switched to Linux?

Something like 10 years ago I decided that dual boot is only interesting if you want to try a new distribution. For my purposes, Linux and more specific Ubuntu suffice. But I'm not fanatic and furthermore if one buys new hardware the MS taxation is something one pays anyhow. Do we throw that money away on principle? A complete switch to Linux is mostly on older machines, where the OS is so slow that the change to Linux is a relief. Some system builders let you have a machine without OS. In my experience at the same price as with Windows installed...

Out the box? Every Blue Ray I've tried even with the Quidstv (youtube channel) scripts; they still won't play

Re: How many of you completely switched to Linux?

Eventhough Ubuntu is my major OS, I still use windows 7 for the following reasons

    1) iTunes support for my iPod
    2) Sony PC Companion for my mobile phone
    3) Samsung Keys for my wife's mobile phone
    4) Converting formats of vidoes(I use software Freemake in Windows for that)

If I can have alternatives for these, I wish I could discard windows completely..

    100% linux since 1999.

It all happened by chance, really.
My then boyfriend installed - with my consent - Linux (Debian version) during Fall 1999, after that my next boyfriend was also into Linux (more a Ubuntu type, though) and he showed me the basics. so I've been using linux for almost 15 yrs now.

I recently realized that all that time, I had a windows system as backup somewhere in my computer - but never felt the need to go back to PreHistory, ever!

I am still running both. My issues with Ubantu are:
    1. poor touch pad interface, no dynamic zooming, etc
    2. The vertical and horizontal slide bars are difficult to use.
    3. Lacking printer driver for Brother MFC-J435W (Wireless)
    4. poor USB interface to my Nexus 7 Tablet.
    5. Still lacking apps

Re: How many of you completely switched to Linux?

    yes, I did.

RedHat 7.3 for daily work and Ubuntu 12.04 on the mobile computer.

My LILO can still boot Win3.1 and Win XP but the M$ crap does not work properly. If I need $Windoors I use Wine - and it works fine.

    FF!
