(G)xmame doesn't save hiscores

I was playing a few rounds of Frogger (oh the travails of that poor amphibian!) in GXMame, got into top form and knocked out the first place hiscore. But the next time I started Frogger, my score had gone... :'-( Does anyone know if this can be remedied? Some hidden xmame setting?

just so you know, you're using severely outdated software. this may indirectly solve your problem:

Thanks for replying. I uninstalled all xmame-related and got hold of the packages you refer to. It's not all that impressive. I've pointed it to the executable which it seems to have recognised (the icon-dropdown-menu says so). I've added a directory which contains my games (in the form of 'frogger.zip'). So far so good. Rebuilding the game list inevitably crashes kxmame sooner or later. Either it runs a quick routine saying build game list, then disappears and never comes back (terminal just says: NOT FOUND: <"*">s) or it returns only to give a long list of wav files missing (window: Audit done) and say that no games have been registered (Correct: 0; Best available: 0; Incorrect: 0; Not found: 1; Total: 1). It then crashes saying that the 'drkonqi' executable could not be found.

prolly cuz your roms are outdated.
xmame was last updated (died) at v 0.106. mame is at 0.123 now, so hence your roms are prolly severely outdated. (the roms change at times, they are not static {don't stay the same}).

btw, sdlmame, or any emulator for that matter, is not supposed to be "impressive". they're supposed to do their job of emulating hardware.
