18, I use Kubuntu ()
Email, word processing (I'm a writer, so sue me) image editing (GIMP, Inkscape, Gwenview and Digikam, I love you!)...I WOULD use it for watching films, but I'm having troubles there.
i am 20,an INDIAN studying engineering in electronics and communication
i came to know GNU/LINUX just 1 year back when a foss camp was conducted in our college by campus linux club .then i started to learn about this on magzines(specifically LINUX FOY YOU) available in library and on internet.
the first thing which i was scared is regarding partitioning for dual boot with windows.i choose UBUNTU because as it can be installed within ubuntu. later i surfed across internet to learn about partitioning ,since ubuntu gave graphical partition data i easily installed it
that was a great moment for me because 3 years back for installation of winxp i was charged indian rupee 300,which i made myself on my own and within 20 mins.
later i have installed UBUNTU on many of my friends comps.
i use UBUNTU for programming ,to use OCTAVE,know about system,
and now i am 100% UBUNTU user.
Im 27

I use the Ubuntu (& Puppy) Live CD for diagnosis if the Arch setup on my computer fails to boot up.
Let me get this right - were you charged 300 bucks or did you earn that money by installing XP on someone's PC inside 20 minutes?
Btw, you don't have to use bold and italics while posting something.
The big three-eight.
I use ubuntu for it's tweakability. I couldn't tell you how many times I reinstalled windows after hacking the registry and screwing something up.
With ubuntu I find I can easily fix what it is I've broken without reinstalling.
****! Is it only youngsters in here?
I'm 65 and I use Ubuntu for nearly everything I do on the computer: reading the newspapers, paying my bills, booking tickets, getting information, downloading films, music, tv and radio programs, some of this legal, writing (novels in Open Office), keeping records of our "farm", bookkeeping, updating a couple of simple websites, chatting to my relatives, planning political activities for the Swedish Pirate Party...
I can't say I use Ubuntu directly for reading email as I use Outlook running on Windows XP in a virtualbox. I don't think Evolution quite cuts it yet, and there's still no way to transfer from Evolution to Outlook. I use a copy of Sunbird for the timeline of my novel. But if anyone offered an intuitive Outlookalike with individual files for emails, I'd be on it like a shot.
So come on, you youngsters, there's a challenge for you!
