    Question Winehq Curiosity

    Hey Everybody,
Just curious to know a little about Winehq (or any of the wine family for that matter.) I new to linux as a os so please practice you virtues with me. I have used linux live CDs before as a recovery option and it was here that I learned and began to love it. Free is one of the best parts not to say the least about more stable and more exciting.
    So here are my questions,
    1) Can Wine be downloaded onto a CD and installed in Ubuntu "Gusty" like I was installing a program in Xp or do I have to be all connected to the internet and Ubuntu takes care of it after all the commands??
    2) If I do have to download it how large an app. is it. (I have dial-up on the PC that I wish to install, 28.8 kb/s tops)
Thanks so much You guys are so helpful

    1. Either way is possible. You can download an installer (a .deb file) here:
    http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/archive/index.html

Just make sure you match the package with your ubuntu version (latest = gutsy gibbon, i386 = default). When the download is done, you can install by double-clicking the .deb file.

If you want ubuntu to take care of things, you'll have to do some preparing first. See:
    http://www.winehq.org/site/download-deb

(If you install wine without adding the extra repository, then you'll get an older version, wine 0.9.46 I believe.)
Advantage(?) of this method is that you won't have to check for updates manually.

    2. It's about 10 MB.

Good luck, and dond't expect too much: it usually takes quite a bit of trial and error to get applications running using wine (if at all).
