After using computers professionally for the last 12 years, today I am celebrating exactly 2 years of Ubuntu.
In the last year, specifically, I have not needed to turn my XP desktop on at all. All my Office (word, excel, ppt) needs were fulfilled by OpenOffice with eventual WINE+MS-OFFICE episodes.
Yesterday I upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy (Alpha 3). Something happened with my Video Settings (X would only start in low-graphics mode), the desktop had no icons and I couldn't start Nautilus.
All those problems were solved in minutes with simples searches in Ubuntu Forums and everything is working just perfectly now.
Xorg performance seems better, with faster graphics responses and smaller CPU and MEM usage.
There still are some pitfalls, like using external projectors (I have never managed to make it work - problems with weird resolutions, probably VIA Graphics chipset fault) and some others, but still this is an amazing OS.
Regarding VIA Graphics driver problems (the company simply won't produce decent drivers although it claims to support Linux), I have started a petition which is rapidly gaining a lot of support (see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=676143).
That's it, thanks for this amazing OS and please keep up the good work.
