Shoundblaster? That's what James Bond used to shake that bad guys hideout to pieces.

He was thinking of oss. Alsa can play from multiple sources.

Not over one device with ALSA.

Device? I'm talking applications. OSS was limited to one application at a time from what I know.

Just notice you're a Ubuntu dev! Sweet. I've attracted a dev. Nice one.

In my post, I said it wasn't possible to play more than one sound over the same device using ALSA. OSS hasn't been default in a long time (well before Feisty), so it's natural to assume he was speaking of ALSA.

And I'm not an Ubuntu dev, I just use a distro in development.

Need to get my eyes checked again. Missed the 'user' bit at the end.

Re: Why are so many users having issues with sound?

I also had problems get two programs to share sound.
But then I learned you can add "aoss" in front of each program, and then you can have as many sound-using programs a you want.

    Example :
    Code:
    aoss skype
    Code:
aoss wine <insert name of windows program.exe>
It gets tedious to open a terminal and type all that each time you want to launch an app, so I suggest you do quick launch icons of the ones you use the most.

Yeah but you quoted me and I wasn't talking about devices, just applications. The original poster was talking about applications too. That's why I said he was getting alsa confused with oss.
