Use Synaptic and Search for vmware. Click it. Install.
But first make sure that in Settings/Repositories/Third-Party Software that the partner line is clicked.

I think I must have had the issue and just went to vmware site to solve it. I'm still new and finding out everyday just how powerful synaptic is.
Does anyone know why the player in add/remove doesn't install? I thought add/remove, apt-get, and synaptic all used the same repos but synaptic just allowed you to see them all or something like that. I guess my noobness is really showing now.
