    Re: Project Management App

thanks @peter105 for the cost calculator -- was just looking for something different to use. i'm familiar with these project management tools:

    • Gnome Planner
    • GanttProject
    • dotProject
    • Tutos
    • ProjectPier

Would love to hear status update if anyone has a better/best tool. Also, let me know of good project manager salary resources, as my friends are telling me my salary is lagging behind the industry.

I'm also using OpenProj, it's a good Linux equivalent of MS Project. Not quite as elaborate, but it handles everything I need so far.

Interested in learning more about project-open - it seems pretty amazing but also seems pretty difficult to install at least in Ubuntu...

I am using Project Pier as I found that to be the best Open Source Online PMS. I do miss time tracking, Gant Charts and or Agenda integration though. Especially an overview of what is up in a specific week or month using a calendar view would be a great asset. The only better ones out there I found are commercial ones, so I am sticking with Project Pier for now. And, maybe, when I finally have some time, I try to improve it myself..

Yes, its a good software but it may have issues if your project has tasks in 100's. For relatively smaller size projects, its very nice solution. However, I had it installed in Ubuntu 10.04 without any issue what so ever.
    What problem did you face?

Using Onepoint Project (http://sourceforge.net/projects/opproject/) for years now I am very satisfied. It has a Gantt Chart showing critical path, runs well on ubuntu (although there is also a web solution called open edition) an interactive WBS supports export and import from/to MS Project a Resource Utilization chart and excellent plan-is comparison tools. If you require additional features like reporting functionality you may also take a look at there commercial version at http://www.onepoint-project.com
