Project Management App

We need to discuss the features we need in a project management app. Also, we need to list suggested apps, the features they have, and pros/cons.

If you come across an app you think would be a good fit, try it out and let us know how it works!

Re: Project Management App

The New Mexico Team is using PHProjekt. I haven't had a chance to look it up yet though.

Re: Project Management App

There are also dotproject, ProjectPier based on activeCollab, and eGroupware which is much more than project management. I've looked at dotproject and eGroupware in the past, but its been some time.

I still like Trac. I wish they had better multi project support.

I'm comparing project management tools at the moment . Here is my list so far:
  • Gnome Planner
  • GanttProject
  • dotProject
  • Tutos
  • ProjectPier
  • Open Workbench
  • eGroupware
  • Group-Office
  • Trac
  • OpenProj
  • ]Project-Open[
  • Onepoint Project
  • Project.net
  • Task Juggler
  • Imendio Planner
  • Tiny ERP
  • phpCollab

Amazingly NONE of the options I've tried (and I've not got through all of the above yet ) fits all of my requirements :
  • Linux based (or platform independent)/ FLOSS
  • Gantt Charts (critical path analysis)
  • Work breakdown structure
  • Export to table, image, e.g. MS Project (for compatibility and sharing)
  • Resource levelling
  • Resource Cost and Task Cost analysis (or export to spreadsheet)
  • Not too complex/ too many software-development features

Robsteranium, consider publishing your comparative analysis to the wiki. I'd really like to see what you've discovered in your dig.

I've heard of other *nix users looking for open-source project management software going with a wiki package instead. Anyone try this approach?

Well, I've ended up with OpenERP, but that's because I'm interested in every single one of its other features. I have not tested any other programs. Not knowing your specific needs or desktop environment, I would generally recommend Planner.

Re: Project Management App

Use the project management software calculator from the following link http://www.valleyspeak.com/index.php...ost-calculator
to calculate your project management software cost.
