Yes. As far as I know posts in the Cafe/Backyard area don't count towards your beancount but I could be wrong.

According to the FAQ, the actual method for calculating user titles is a secret, so no one but the staff really knows how it works. But, as far as I can tell, it does seem to depend mostly on post count, and possibly on posting frequency and other factors. IIRC, my title changed at some point shortly after 1500 posts.
So: hit the "unanswered posts" button, help some newbies, and you should soon be rid of the fresh brew.
