    Ubuntu Fails: Flash Crash

I started using Ubuntu at least a year ago. I have been using linux for longer. I have tested other distros recently too. As far as I know, Ubuntu is the only linux distro that has this problem.

Firefox often crashes when viewing flash applications: especially youtube.

I have given Ubuntu a chance. I waited at least 2 release cycles, possibly 3 if I remember correctly and still this bug has not been fixed.

    Congratulations Ubuntu. You fail.

I understand this may not be Ubuntu's fault specifically, but I still look to them to provide a reasonable solution.

This is a well known bug. I'm pretty sure it has been a well known bug for some time.

It is unacceptable for a major distribution, and arguably the best alternative to Windows, to have this bug go unfixed for 3 releases.

P.S. I really don't care what the excuses are. I simply expect better than this from Ubuntu. I shouldn't have to wait a year and a half for this bug to be fixed. It's still not fixed now. Please fix it.

    That is all.

    Re: Ubuntu Fails: Flash Crash

Are you sure it is Ubuntu and not Firefox?

As an Opera user, I don't have that problem.

(Well, since I am using Opera 9.5b, I do get some hints of unstableness, but nothing critical)

You are not asking for help. Why did you post?

This is not the place for bug reports.

    What distros do you like?

the flash plug in has updated last week, and it seemed that the new plug in has solved this problem.

Actually I'm just venting my rage somewhere. I suppose a mod could move this or delete it as it is pointless.

You're right, of course.. it probably is Firefox.. but Firefox is a very very popular browser. Still, this only happens with Ubuntu. I tried the latest openSUSE recently, and another SLAX based distro and they worked pretty well. I definitely prefer Ubuntu though.

It's just these small bugs that seem to never get fixed that drive me insane.

Keep in mind that Flash is not controlled by the Ubuntu developers, so it is probably difficult to work with on their side.

    I get that to.
Firefox will crash when on youtube sometimes.

it is obviously the flash plugin, as youtube works fine on my (dad's) windows PC.

It is a "well known bug"? I use Swiftweasel instead of Firefox, but I have never had a crash when using Flash. This may be specific to your system, but it cannot be generalized. It "just works" here, and it works well.
