New question though.... All the guides to installing Valve games I've seen somewhere involve the use of the cds to install. I don't have any cds, I've always downloaded the games within steam and installed them from there; is that still possible or is there going to be a trick to doing this? Thanks again, it's so greatly appreciated.

Yes, it is quite possible to install within Steam using Wine.
All of my Steam games were installed this way.
