Angry So who else hates Firefox?

Crashed on me again a moment ago, using all of the CPU. I could not even close my other programs, had to reset the computer.

I was also reminded I need to apply that fix for virtual terminals not working in Gutsy (you know, Ctrl+Alt+F1). And install an SSH server so perhaps I can login to my PC from my laptop, so I can kill Firefox if it happens again

    This is a bad situation!

Sorry, had to vent. I love Ubuntu but I will be looking for a different web browser tomorrow. Off to bed now, it's 1:47 AM where I live.

Re: So who else hates Firefox?

I have also been experiencing a high CPU problem with firefox, I have had to end it with a well placed xkill and then a ps -A | grep firefox

that is the only thing I have found that works. Is there a known bug out there. I have not found anything that could be triggering it.

different types of sites, still cause it.

If someone asks you to sudo rm -rf anything don't do it.

Can you not just kill the X Window session (ctl+alt+back space) ?

    You shouldn't have to.

Epiphany never crashes for me (even though it still uses Gecko). Perhaps it's because I'm not a heavy tabs user.

I both love it and hate it!
I mean, I love all the features, extension, etc... It really got to me since I was using it in Windows. But on my good old (REALLY OLD) laptop, Firefox freezes often, and uses lots of CPU cycles. I still use it for some pages (Gmail specially), but I use Opera most of the time.
I've heard Firefox3 will be lighter, I hope this is true!

In an ideal world yes - but lets be honest nothing is perfect - and if all else fails..... Killing X is less time consuming than rebooting.

The best feature of firefox is the add-ons - but I've learnt to live without them, for me they can even keep the copyright to their logo!

    or press ALT+F2 type
    Code:
    xkill
and click on misbehaving application.............. AND WATCH IT DIE!!!! MUAHAHAHAHA!!!

EDIT to KiwiNZ's EDIT: Why? O, why? I wanted to use font number 7 forever with a vengeful reason. I'm willing to use number 4 but it really diminishes the whole dramatic effect.

    +1

besides if i kill x i lose everything in all the other windows...like an unsaved gedit document or something.

Its really annoying, I am about to start looking around for something else also.

That's the best one. Firefox should depend on xkill's package.

Re: So who else hates Firefox?

you can also pop open a terminal and type "killall firefox" and it'll get rid of it, you can do it from a remote system too...just in case

I'm not a big firefox fan, but because I don't like the way it works with downloads/saving images, etc. Otherwise it's fine, I use Epiphany instead of it though if I need a gecko browser.
