World of Warcraft + VirtualBox (WinXP)

So I am trying to get WoW installed in VirtualBox which is running a virtual WinXP. I am running VB on Ubuntu 7.10. Now my problem is that I get the following error when trying to start the setup or autorun from the WoW install CD: It gives me a box that says "sorry intaller was unable to start up", then it says "No installer data could be found".

So anyone have a clue what is going on here. Basically I am running virtual WinXP in order to use windows games and programs in a virtual windows. So far though I have been unable to install any Windows programs. Anyone have any comments or suggestions?

And yes I know I can run WoW under Wine however I have the fabled ATI 200M card which works terribly in Wine with WoW. It does work but get anywhere with more than 1 or 2 moving things and ya get 1-3 fps.

    are you using a laptop?

if so you have no recourse.

otherwise get a better video card. and lots of ram and a big cpu....and even more ram...

ps. check that you got the best cpu. serious.

I'm sorry, but until virtualization of video processing improves this is never going to work..

VirtualBox does not do 3D. The only virtualization software that does 3D is Vmware, and it does not do it well either.

Ok so Wine is my best option? I was mostly wanting to test it but it seems VB does not want to let me install anything from a CD, all I get is errors.

Still kind of cool running WinXP inside linux hehehehehe.

Yeah, Wine. Don't even think about running graphical-intensive apps insite a virtualization program.

    Hello,

I'm new to Ubuntu and these forums so pardon the ignorance but couldn't you set the graphics to openGL for WoW? Does VB work with openGL?

Mine are set to OpenGL cause' I used the installation folder from my Linux WoW install, and it gives me an error saying my video card wasn't supported, or something to that effect. Sorry I can't go into more detail, I've been working for a little over 24 hours now.

I hate to say it (I really like Ubuntu) but your best option might be to dual boot and run WoW on Windows.

I used to be able to run WoW fine with the Ubuntu/Wine combo, but now I get really bad FPS ever since getting WoTLK. It just makes the game frustrating, and pretty much unplayable. I used to get over 70FPS on max settings, now I get 15FPS on the minimum settings. I have spent hours doing research and making tweaks, but haven't had any success.
