    Black screen in virtualbox

    Hello.

    I'm running Ubuntu 7,10 on a Toshiba Satellite A100-192. I installed VirtualBox 1.5.2

So when I run the machine created I get a black screen.
If I proceed to shut down the machine I get a confirmation box and in the backgrownd I see a snap shot of the screen at that instance, but nothing more.

dumb question but have you installed an OS? If you are booting to install make sure that you put the disk in the cd-rom/dvd, mount the cd rom (mount option in virtualbox) and then start the virtual machine.

I get the same black screen when I try to start Puppy. DSL seems to work just fine though.

In Puppy, it asks me if I want to start Xorg or XVesa?

On selecting Xorg - it gives a black screen
On selecting XVesa - it works. and then I have to change the resolution from 600x400 to 1024x768x24

What distro are you trying to run?

I did manage to install WinXp SP2 whith some effort ( clicking the x and then selecting cancel to see the install progress).
