Tell me how ETQW is running on your system please

    Hi there,
    So, i've just bought a new system, Intel Core 2 Q6600 2.4GHZ 3Gig RAM 8600GS w/512MB.
Seeing as this would give me a better gaming experience then my 6 y old DELL, i also bought ETQW to test it.
Now, i know ETQW hasn't got the "best" graphics around atm, so it should run/ fly on my system, right?
Great was my surprise when playing it in Vista: 15-30 fps, lag... bah!
Gutsy is slightly better, but not as it should be.

So, what's your set-up? and what's the performance?

Games are GPU intensive (usually) and your video card is not up for the task. It's most definitely causing a bottleneck in your otherwise high-end system. If you want to increase performance, you need to lower resolution and rendering quality or upgrade the video card.

    Eh? a Nvidia Geforce 8600 GS 512RAM a bottleneck???

It seems to be running good on my system. Although I have the graphics turned down to 800x600 resolution; normal.

My graphics card is even older 6600 gs 256mb.

Don't know the command to show fps - tell me and I'll report back.

It runs fast and smooth on my nvidia 6600gt 128Mb, at resolution 1280x1024 but on lowest graphics settings (e.g., no anti-aliasing).

I gotta say, the 8600gs no matter what the ram size isn't a good card for gaming. it's got a huge bottleneck in it's 128-bit memory interface. I even struggled with the 8600gt and quickly got rid of it

Runs great for me. Should be quite obvious though XD

I'm trying to find the specs on this card but I can't. Only for mobile versions.

Maybe you meant 8600 GTS? The 8600 GTS is not a bad card but compared to the 8800 line it's pretty crippled. Anyway, it doesn't matter because others are claiming decent performance with their 6600 GT. So unless you're trying to run at 1920x1200 at max settings, I'd say there's something wrong.

First try disabling the nonessential stuff, if they're not already disabled, like anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, and vsync. All of those can be changed in nvidia-settings, but the game might have its own options for those settings too.

Here's a great site for looking at graphics card performance:

    http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphi...=710&chart=275

Unfortunately it doesn't have the GS model but otherwise that's good for looking at what different cards can do in various games. From what I know, the GS is not a fast card, unfortunately, so I think that really is the bottleneck. You have made sure you have latest drivers installed, right?

IMHO, I think it's actually quite dishonest marketing to put the high numbers (8600...) on a card that's not that fast. I myself have the 7950GT and it's pretty fast. I'm actually getting rid of it because of other issues (heat..) and going for the new Geforce 8800GT but I found these different Nvidia numbers to be really confusing. Basically they can throw 8600 or even 8800 next to anything and what you need to look at is the letters behind it (GS, GTS, GT, Ultra...). Really difficult to figure out.

I can't check it right now, i'm at work....
But, yeah the card shouldn't be the issue here.
The 1.2 linux client helped quite a bit, i was using the 1.1 before.
I found this thread at the ETQW forum, but it's all windows talk....

    TNX all for the replies.

I'll get back to you with the exact card model specs.
