How to Create VCD's

I've toyed around with DEVEDE but I'm not sure how to actually burn the VCD once it creates a cue,bin files etc, but there is a known sound issue encoding with Gutsy.

Anyhow what is the simplest way to do this sort of the Kb3 way but with Gnome to create VCD's

Please advise

Re: How to Create VCD's

one can create vcds, or svcds, or even dvds with avidemux.

I don't think that this statement is correct.

imho Avidemux will just convert the file into the correct audio and video that is compliant with VCD, SVCD or DVD.
But if I'm wrong, please explain.

@ AgentZ86 - Here is a tutorial using Avidemux and K3bhttp://www.ubuntugeek.com/make-a-vcd...x-and-k3b.html

Yep seems to be what I can use. I'm encoding an avi file now to VCD then I'll use K3b to burn the VCD. as directed and post back my results.

Thanks for the help.

2 more questions if you could be so kind ?
1. I love K3b application, however for other reasons, I was wondering if you know of another Gnome application equivalent to complete my VCD burn?
I like K3b the best, however since I'm using Ubuntu I want to attempt to stay in Gnome apps.

2.Second what about the finished VCD subtitles? Will the completed encoded conversion to VCD include those subtitles ? ; and can they be turned on/off from my home DVD player like a normal DVD would act.
The reason I ask is because they are in french and I don't want them on the screen when watching the finished VCD ???
Please advise

Thanks for the help again ?

Re: How to Create VCD's

Hi
I'm using Ubuntu with Gnome desktop and I use K3b mostly.

I also have Gnomebaker installed. This seems to have options for Data DVD, Data CD and Audio CD. No mention of VCD though. So it might not be suitable for your job.

I've no ideas about the subtitle question.

Re: How to Create VCD's

I've noticed that as well. I'm fairly certain that if it does not specifically identify VCD(video CD) that it will not write it properly, I guess unless perhaps I create some type of iso to burn.

In anycase I wanted to post back that Avidemux works perfectly and then I can use K3b to create a new (video CD) project. Then simply drag and drop or browse and add the encoded file that I just created with Avidemux.

I've not tried the SVCD yet which is better quality, however takes longer to encode.

But to make a long story short this works great for CD's and I can use the VCD's in my home DVD player and works on almost all DVD players to my knowledge.

Anyhow thanks for the help all and I'm enjoying this because CD's are less costly then DVD's and also typically I can get CD's for nothing. I go to auctions and sometimes there are cases of CDR's and this works really well for me if I miss a TV show I can then get them from a torrent or something in an emergency.

Sometimes if the power goes out, or perhaps I forget to record or something this is really handy to get back up to speed so I don't get behind on the next upcoming episode.

Anyhow thanks again all.

Re: How to Create VCD's

One last post on this subject.

When using Avidemux to make the VCD format, it fails the first time but then the second time always works. ??

In otherwords I select open file and browse to the file I wish to encode for VCD, then select auto/vcd from the menus and then select save.A windows pops up asking me for file name etc. I create a file name and click ok. The program always appears to freeze at that point. I then click the x to close the window and I get a message to force quite. I select the option to force quite.

Then I bring up the program the second time and go thru the same exact process and all works perfectly.

I'm not sure but I believe it's some problem with the creating of the file, because the second time I go thru the process I don't have to give the file a name I basically click on the file that I created the first time around which is basically an empty file since it failed on the first try. And when I select the existing file is asks to overwrite and I select yes, then the encoding starts and completes without fail.
Stange but just fyi on that. It's not a big problem, but just wondering why ?
Thanks all

I'm using 2.3 basically just what I saw in the add/remove programs list.

you think 2.4 might help ?

I'm very happy that it even works, cause it's not really a supported package, but it is working so I can't really complain. But just wondering if 2.4 would fix this or perhaps some other known fix I could try. ?

Thanks
