Re: HowTo: Installing and using KernelCheck

hmm maybe i was to fast

i mean the program is running very nicely, it's doing its jobs (checking for the kernels), i then made my choices go to the last tab clicked on this "start build" button and thougt ist ok to go to bed, i then woke up today and saw that the program has done nothing at all.

i tried the same thing again today (beside going to bed), and again nothing after i click on on this "start build" button

what could be the problem? i mean there is not even a message in the terminal saing whats wrong

anyway its a realy good program, even if its not working for me.
but i think i will try the "Old" kernel way.

i've done sudo kernelcheck > debug.txt, and thats all i got

Still looks like you have the experimental version installed. You have to fully remove it before installing the patched version of 1.5. (By manually removing files)

As of right now, the experimental version does nothing, but I will try to have working kernel compilation support by tomorrow - I want to test drive pause/resume buttons and/or the new CLI support. But note for future reference that the experimental build may not work at all times - the development build is the one you want to download (except when it outdates the stable version ).

Newbie. Am trying to upgrade kernel in Toshiba laptop running 9.10 to fix wireless problem and generally improve performance. Downloaded and have run KernelCheck several times. Keeps hanging at 70% according to the indicator bar. the Terminal window has these details:
This is kernel package version 11.015.
echo "The UTS Release version in include/Linux/version.h"; echo " \"\" "; echo "does not match current version:"; echo " \"2.6.33.1-candela\" "; echo "Please correct this."; exit 2
The UTS Release version in include/Linux/version.h
    ""
    does not match current version:
    "2.6.33.1-candela"
    Please correct this.
    make[1]: *** [debian/stamp/install/linux-image-2.6.33.1-candela] Error 2
    make: *** [kernel_image] Error 2
    make[1]: leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-2.6.33'

ABORT: stage6 returned exit status 2
I have no clue on what all of that means and what I need to do to fix whatever is wrong. I would be most grateful for any assistance.

(Also, a small post-script, I retyped all of the terminal remarks above because copy paste is unavailable. Is there some alternative method to C-P when, like now, I cannot select text in the terminal? Thnx).
    Many thanks in advance.

Yes, that's a known bug with kernel-package for new kernels. You will have to upgrade to the latest upstream Debian or Ubuntu version to build the 2.6.33+ kernels.

The patched version of KernelCheck is now in the Launchpad Trunk. Use the development method to install it.

it's working and compiling thank you
but i still have a little problem, my native resolution is 1920x1080, but i also tryed the other possible resolution of 1280x720 but xconfig is not useable for me when i use your programm.
the font is way toooooooo small, its ok when i try to compile a new kernel without your programm :/

here is a link to the pic i made so you can see what i mean

That is really odd - I have no idea why it would be doing that. All KernelCheck does is call make xconfig. No options or anything.

Re: HowTo: Installing and using KernelCheck

I've pulled the fixes from trunk and made a new deb package on Mepis, which means it should work for recent Ubuntus and Debian too--you need python-central 0.6.8 or higher, and python2.5 or higher.

I've included the source files, too, if anyone wants to rebuild it on Ubuntu.

Edit: For the teeny fonts on the qt3 xconfig, perhaps it's a qt3 problem. There's the qt3-qtconfig GUI for configuring font size, among other things; perhaps that will help.
