    Ubuntu NOT user-friendly

    I HAVE tried and tried again, but I am getting more and more fed up with Ubuntu. For example, I go to Evolution to do a simple task - read and download new messages. Guess what? The send/receive box is greyed out. Frustration!! I had a load of hassle to get on line with a dial-up connection - and I am fed up with American subscribers telling me how cheap/easy it is in USA to get broadband but the whole of the rest of the world is not necesarlly the same - but in the end I managed it. Ubuntu may think itself the greatest thing since sliced bread but it has to become CONSIDERABLY more user friendly before it can ever consider itself or it's contempories sucessors to Microsoft. Here is one person who is returning to Windows for ease of use. Goodbye and DELETE.

    well, to be honest. some people can put in the time needed to learn how to use a different operating system and some people can't. We'd be glad to help you if you stayed but no one is going to stop you from leaving either.
    The box said that I needed to have Windows 98 or better... so I installed Linux

    Have fun with the incredibly user-friendly and frustration-free Windows.

    If you are not willing to put in the time to learn the OS then that is your decision. I on the other hand found Ubuntu fairly easy to use oout of the box. I did not have to install 5 different drivers to get all my stuff to work.

    Make sure you keep your anti-virus and spyware scanners up to date.
    Windows XP - Excellent computer virus detector.
    Windows Vista - Most bloat for the money.

    I think if I had dial-up, I'd probably not use ubuntu. As for broadband, I was under the impression that it was more readily available in developed Europe and Asia.

    Anyway, good luck.

    Re: Ubuntu NOT user-friendly

    When on dial-up evolution has a tendency to think that it is disconnected from the internet.
    To fix this problem you need to click on the button in the bottom left hand corner in evolution to connect it to the internet, you can then press the send / receive button.
    Work smart, not hard.

    User friendly != familiarity.

    I suggest you read this article and make sure you get acquainted with the fact that Linux is NOT Windows before you move back with your 'user-friendly' operating system.
