    Now this is weird.

    Try installing some packages to configure the gtk apps (gkt-theme-switch) and changing the fonts displayed.

    Cheers.

    Note that ePSXe is a Gtk1.2 app.

    Code:
    sudo aptitude install upx-ucl-beta
    If you did that before, what does it return?

    Nevermind, it worked today. Weird. Sometimes I think I just shouldn't code at night.

    Thanks for the howto: much more appropriate to my system than the previous.

    Okay, FF8 is pulling up a black screen. The BIOS runs fine. Here's what the terminal has to say when I try to run the CD:

    Code:
     * Memory handlers init.
     * ePSXe: PSX BIOS loaded [/usr/local/games/epsxe/bios//SCPH1001.BIN].
     * Init internal cdrom ... ok
    CD read toc header failed (25)
     * First/Last track: 7 2
     * Track 1: CD get track start failed (25)
     (AUDIO) - Start 0: (00,00,00)
     * Track 2: CD get track start failed (25)
     (AUDIO) - Start 1: (00,00,00)
    CD(0,2,16) read ioctl failed (25)
    CD(174,47,17) read ioctl failed (25)
    CD(174,47,18) read ioctl failed (25)
     * Force NTSC cdrom detected.
     * Init gpu[0][libgpuPeteXGL2.so.2.0.8]
    ATI Technologies Inc.
    ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600
     * Open gpu[0]
     * Init spu[0][libspuPeopsOSS.so.1.0.9]
     * Open spu[0]
    CD(0,2,16) read ioctl failed (25)
    CD(0,2,0) read ioctl failed (25)

    Hmm... I don't remember FF8 having audio tracks. Are you sure this is the right CD? Anyway, if yes (originals do best, by the way), try two things:

    - Enable Subchannel reading and caching (FF8 uses an additional copy protection called Libcrypt which relies on bogus subchannel data)
    - Try making an ISO (which will make the game much more playable, by the way)

    I'll second that.

    How? (i'm = n00b)

    Yes, it's the original CD. I'll get on the ISO thing pronto.
