    Re: Install ePSXe Playstation Emulator (Version 2)

    Well, mebbe I can google it somewhere, it's not really a big deal, heh.

    However, I was going to ask the OP (and anyone else who might know for that matter) if I would have to jump through hoops and hurdles to install ePSXe 1.52 alongside ePSXe (and just execute using the commandline "epsxe152").

    The reason I ask is because, after reading several posts in other forums, I have learned that FF7 will actually run better in the old version than 1.60.

    I'll see if I can do it myself first, and post my results here if I'm able to.

    Yep! It worked. I basically followed the exact same instructions the OP gave, renaming epsxe to epsxe152, used the upx command, created the file in /usr/local/bin, and chmodded it. It works great! (And, yes, FF7 in 1.52 -does- run more smoothly, particularly the post-battle sequence, which was getting slowed up in 1.60.)

    @Sarteck
    Hey. Thanks for the bug report. I fixed those. Also, I lifted the icon from the Winblows executable. You get get it here. I never asked if this was ok, so I may have to remove this link if someone complains.
    As for epsxe 1.52, I think I may add that to my How-To at some point. It seems to be the standard fix for a few games.

    Hey, great! The icon's just what I needed. ^_^

    And thanks for the FAQ... I thought pSX was cool, since I didn't have to do any tweaking, but when I tried ePSXe, I was completely stunned by the difference in graphics. So this FAQ == "teh cool."

    cp epsxe epsxe_bak
    upx -d epsxe

    Because what you described sounds exactly like the problem that fixes.
    Ah, I was terrified that my ePSXe was broken forever, so thanks a bunch. I would have been quite sad if I had no emulation.

    Out of random curiosity, what is upx -d? It worked, but I don't know precisely what it did?

    @ACLBandit
    UPX is a program to compress executables and still have them run without having to decompress them. Turns out there is a bug in Gutsy in regards to those compressed executables. the "upx -d" extracted the real executable from the compressed file. If you look at epsxe_bak VS your new epsxe you will see a fairly major size difference.

    When I try to play a game it doesn't load and it appears:

    * Running ePSXe emulator version 1.6.0.
    * Memory handlers init.
    * ePSXe: PSX BIOS loaded [/usr/local/games/epsxe/bios//SCPH1001.BIN].
    * Init internal cdrom ... ok
    CD read toc header failed (25)
    * First/Last track: 7 2
    * Track 1: CD get track start failed (25)
    (AUDIO) - Start 0: (00,00,00)
    * Track 2: CD get track start failed (25)
    (AUDIO) - Start 1: (00,00,00)
    CD(0,2,16) read ioctl failed (25)
    CD(141,20,9) read ioctl failed (25)
    CD(141,20,10) read ioctl failed (25)
    * NTSC cdrom detected.
    * Init gpu[0][libgpuPeopsSoftX.so.1.0.17]
    * Open gpu[0]
    CD(0,2,16) read ioctl failed (25)
    CD(0,2,0) read ioctl failed (25)

    Can someone help me? I have no idea how to fix it.

    @whitesky
    Need a better definition of "Doesn't Run".
    Are you getting a black screen?
    I see you are using the Soft GPU, so how long did you wait? It could take a while before a screen comes up. And by a while, I mean a really LONG while, depending on your settings.
    What are your settings in your GPU (Video Plugin)?
    Have you tried running the game with pSX? It's always a good double check to make sure you don't have a bad copy of the game that way.

    EDIT:
    Oh ya, What are your hardware specs? CPU Speed, Memory & Video Card.

    My screen gets transparent... I just move it around the screen and everything behind the window appears.
    I waited four 5 minutes maximum, nothing happened.
    I don't know how to see my settings on my GPU. How do I do this?
    I tried running pSX and another copy of epsxe too, same error.
