DO NOT EXECUTE ANY COMMAND with rm in it

A spammer(s) has been giving misleading instructions. The command that he/she gives will ERASE your entire home directory. Please do NOT execute the commands before you verify it.

Consider yourselves warned !!!!!!!!!!

as long as this thread remains on the first page, hopefully it will help new users.

I guess we just keep bumping this thread if it goes further down.

But if we don't let people find out what $sudo rm -rf /home does then how will they ever learn?

I'll try it right now!!
But seriously, I agree it would be a good idea to have this thread as a sticky.

Re: DO NOT EXECUTE ANY COMMAND with rm in it

Not that anyone reads stickies, but for the few who do, this advice would be beneficial:

The command
Code:
rm
stands for remove. The command
Code:
sudo rm
means remove with administrative privileges. The command
Code:
sudo rm -rf
means remove recursively (files within folders and folders within folders) with administrative privileges. The command
Code:
sudo rm -rf /
means Delete my entire hard drive. The command
Code:
sudo rm -rf /home
means Delete all user data, including personal files.

Do not run these commands.

More importantly, if you ever doubt whether a command should be run or not, wait for at least one or two people to respond validating the command or Google the command to see what it does.

Would you please DO NOT include that command in your message. Somebody would try it!
